Mission: Grateful Hearts gleans produce from local farms to create delicious, nutritionally dense meals that energize and improve the vitality of hungry recipients from students and families to seniors in our greater community. Grateful Hearts employs practices that utilizes as much as possible while wasting as little as possible. Grateful Hearts will support and collaborate on educational and sustainability initiatives to foster a lifestyle of wellness for our community and environment.
Born in 2011 from a lament that local farm produce donated to Food Cupboards often went unused. Many clients lacked the facilities, ability, or wherewithal to create meals from raw ingredients. Grateful Hearts started with one volunteer chef and now has multiple chapters and more than 50 volunteers. The organization employs sustainable practices in all aspects of operation.
In 2017 Grateful Hearts created more than 30,000 servings from produce that would otherwise have gone to waste.
Grateful Hearts is an all volunteer, 501(c)3 organization. Grateful Hearts transforms donated produce from local farms and producers into meals in certified commercial kitchens. Volunteers glean produce to create meals that are then packaged, frozen and distributed to Food Cupboards, Backpack Programs, DCF and other organizations serving children and families thru seniors who are food and nutrition insecure in the communities we serve.
